Defensive Driver Training

Aimed At:

Anyone who drives on company business including cash takers, pool cars and hire cars on company business.

Location:

Any location, your head office, depot or a local hotel etc.

Duration:

Full or half day sessions.

Driver/Trainer Ratio

2:1 full day or 1:1 half day (depending on the number of seats available in the vehicle).

Aims:

To reduce or eliminate the risk of drivers being involved in an accident, and to ensure drivers adopt a safe driving attitude whilst being aware of issues such as wear and tear, fuel economy and environmental considerations.

Objectives:

At the end of the session drivers will:

  • Show an appreciation of the role hazard recognition has in accident avoidance.
  • Show an understanding of the major causes of road accidents, and understand the concept of avoidability in road accidents.
  • Show an understanding of how driver attitude and behaviour can effect driving performance and the effect on the environment.
  • Show an awareness of the role that stress and fatigue play in poor driving performance.

Method:

Following the results of the Xcel Roadmarque online risk assessment the trainer will use a short briefing to set objectives for the session. The trainer will then identify and taylor the driver training to the individual drivers training needs. Where there is more than one driver in the vehicle, the learning process is continued during the non-driving period, as the non driver is actively included.
