7 to 10 day duration, depending on previous experience

Driver:

Aims:

The aim is equip the ADI with the skills and knowledge to deliver a comprehensive instructor training course to new driving instructors (pdi's). To enable ADI's to undertake an ORDIT inspection and have the necessary knowledge to know what is needed to undertake this process and have a successful ORDIT inspection first time.

Objectives:

  • At the end of the session the ADI will: Cover the below syllabus.
  • Have a complete comprehensive knowledge of the instructor training sequence.

Method:

When you choose to have your training with Xcel to become an instructor trainer, a comprehensive training package covering all aspects of being an ADI trainer will be delivered to you. This is delivered from our highly experienced and qualified trainer who has many years experience as a trainer and is ORDIT registered.

Training covers the following syllabus:

  • ADI suitability assessment
  • Formulate a training package to suit the individual ADI's needs and requirements.
  • Training to cover the exam process. Part 1, 2 & part 3.
  • Record keeping required for Ordit trail.
  • How to produce your terms and conditions policy to ORDIT standard.
  • Premises inspection advice.
  • Design a lesson plan for your ORDIT inspection
  • Coaching and confidence building along with a full detailed written report.
  • Personal action plan outlining future aims & objectives for the trainer.
  • How you can become a trainer of instructor trainers.

You will be trained to a very high standard and not trained just to deliver pre set exercises. All aspects of instructor training will be taught. This is done through role-play (by our trainer) and lots of practice in car. Our trainer has trained dozens of ADI's to become ORDIT registered trainers. Why not make a change in your career path and diversify into instructor training? Even if you don't want to be an ORDIT registered trainer, our training may improve your own teaching technique.

Training hours will depend on the individual Adi's current experience and capabilities. It is desirable that Adi's have some experience in the instructor training industry before training others to become Adi's. Xcel recommends that you should have had at least one check test and be graded before training the trainers. Ideally, some experience of Instructor training would be an advantage, but this is not a pre requisite.

The DSA consider one year okay in theory.

Ideally with 2 trainees in the car the cost is reduced and this is a very good way to train, as it will give time to absorb what can be alot of information. Anticipated timescales would be approx 5-10 days training, this training is beyond the normal training offered by other organisations. The training can be done as half days or full days. However the trainer who delivers this course is flexible and understands that as an ADI you will be turning down paid work to do this course.
