Aimed At:
Potential Driving Instructors (Pdi's) who have passed part one and want to pass the part two test of driving ability.
Location:
At a mutually agreed place and time convenient to the trainer and pdi'. If the location is not within reasonable travelling distance then B&B can be recommended for the pdi.
Duration:
Half day. Approximately 8 to 10 hours spread over several weeks.
Driver/Trainer Ratio
1:1Aims:
The aim is to prepare the pdi for their part two driving ability test.
Objectives:
At the end of the sessions the pdi will: Have a clear action plan of any strengths and weaknesses in their driving.
Have a full detailed report of what they need to do in private practice.
The pdi will be observing a demonstration drive by the trainer if needed.
Commentary driving will be developed on every session and a demonstration by the trainer will be done if needed.
The pdi will have a very clear picture of the links between part two and the one & part three course.
Method:
Driving competence will be assessed against a longer more comprehensive driving test to that which applies to a learner driver.
The test will last approximately 60 minutes and will cover all aspects of traffic situations and types of roads. These include motorways and dual carriageways. In order to pass the test the applicant will have to incur less than 6 driving faults. Also as part of the test, several reversing excersises will need to be performed. It is important to understand that the part two test requires a very high standard of driving and therefore this can take some weeks to perfect. At Xcel we encourage all our pdi's to do commentary driving during their own practice sessions. This will be invaluable when they reach part three training. The part 2 course is made up of a tailored program of practical in-car training designed to accentuate your positive driving elements while eliminating the negative aspects of your driving.
Your personal Instructor will acquaint you with all matters relating to the Test of Driving Ability.
This in-car training would usually be spread over several sessions allowing time for private practice and will be delivered on a one-to-one basis to ensure no time is wasted waiting for or watching someone else drive. A part two "mock" driving test will be done as part of the preparation for the part two test. A full and very detailed report is given at the end of a mock test, as is all the part two sessions. We advise at least an hour a day private practice, to practice what is learned in-car. More if you can put the time in. In the unlikely event that you do not pass any attempt at this stage of the exam, additional in-car training is provided to help you pass the next time.
