Driver/Trainer Ratio
1:1Aims:
The aim is prepare the pdi for the part three test of instructional ability.
Objectives:
The objective of the training is to cover all the main components of the instructional ability of the pdi. Core competencies and instructional characteristics are a main objective during training. The pre set tests are addressed, however at Xcel we do not teach to pre set tests but to the over all instructional techniques. Once these are learned, they can be transferred to all the pre set tests.
Method:
Part Three examines the ability of the pdi candidate to deliver tuition/coaching to the novice driver relevant to the level of skill and experience of the driver.
You will be assessed on your ability to observe and correct any errors and maintain a safe controlled learning environment.
The part three test is split into two parts in which the DSA examiner will take on the role of a Phase 1 and a Phase 2 pupil.
- Phase 1 pupils are either beginners or partly trained, either they have not driven a car before or have taken a few lessons previously.
- Phase 2 pupils are deemed to be trained and are ready to take their Driving Test. Alternatively, a Phase 2 pupil may have just failed the Driving Test.
Your DSA examiner will explain before each part of the test which type of pupil she/he will be simulating and the pre-set Test selected. The test lasts approximately 60 minutes. The result to the test is given at the end of the test. Phase one will last 30 minutes and phase two will last 30 minutes. One hour in total.
On our part Three course you'll acquire the instructional standards and the practical skills you'll need in order to successfully pass this test. All your training manuals can be purchased from Xcel or we can recommend a good supplier of books/manuals you will need for the part three training.
Part three is probably the most interesting part of the three exams to become an ADI. It draws on all the life experience that the pdi has had in their "previous life". Our trainer believes in the Gestalt theory, that is: old knowledge and new knowledge = insight. Whoever is being trained on part three, nearly always the pdi has had some experience of teaching, explaining or demonstrating something to someone else. Therefore our trainer believes in drawing on all this old knowledge while developing the required specific skills needed to become a competent ADI. To become a good ADI is not just about passing part three it's about being a patient and knowledgeable teacher that gives value for money.
You will be given tasks and exercises to complete between training sessions as an aid to skills development. The more work you can do between training sessions the more benefit you will get from in car.
