Driver/Trainer Ratio
1:1Aims
The aim is identify the strengths and weaknesses within the ADI's lesson plan and delivery of the proposed lesson. Observation of the all the core competencies and instructor characteristics will also be observed and a suitable action plan put in place to rectify any weak areas.
Objectives:
At the end of the session the ADI will:
- Have a clear plan of what to develop within their lesson structure.
- Be given feedback on their use of the core competencies.
- Have any suggestions given in regard to ADI characteristics.
- Have an honest and constructive critique given to them based on the lesson the ADI wants to present for checktest. Also the type/level of pupil the ADI proposes to take for checktest.
Method:
All our Xcel checktest training and preparation is provided by one of our experienced instructor trainers. They are specialists at checktest training and Approved Driving Instructor/Potential Driving Instructor. (ADI/PDI training) They have many years' experience in the driver training industry and have helped dozens of ADI's to pass their checktest.
Your training with our Xcel instructor trainer will be done on a one to one basis. You can choose to do the training in the trainer's car, or you can use your own vehicle. The vehicle you choose to let a Xcel trainer use must be suitably insured for them to drive, as the checktest training requires the ADI to use our trainer as a "pupil".
During your checktest training, our trainer will listen to what sort of pupil and lesson you are planning to do on the day of your checktest. Our trainer will simulate your "pupil" based on the information you give them. With this information our trainer will be looking to see how you plan to structure your lesson and how you actually teach. Focus will be put on the core competencies and because of this faults will be introduced in to the trainers driving so that they can see how the ADI uses the core competencies properly.
The Xcel trainer will want to see how you structure your lesson. This will include, RECAPPING, AIMS AND OBJECTIVES, Q&A TECHNIQUE, LESSON CONTENT/BRIEFINGS ETC AND SUMMARY.
During the checktest lesson, the trainer may come in and out of the role of the "pupil" to give the ADI feedback.
At the end of the checktest training, the trainer will give full feed back on the training session and recommend what needs to happen next. If the trainer feels more training is recommended then they would suggest that another lesson with them would be needed. However, only one training session is usually needed.
As part of the checktest training, your trainer will write up a full detailed report and any recommendations the ADI needs. A full breakdown of any areas that need working on will be fully reported and this is posted or emailed to the ADI within 48 hours of the checktest training.
It is usually the case that only one checktest lesson is required, however there are always exceptions to this.
Sometimes, it may be suggested that a different type of lesson would be more suitable to present on the checktest. It may even be suggested you bring a different type of pupil also. This is rare but it is important that you get the best possible outcome on your checktest. Our Xcel trainer would explain in detail why they have suggested changing your lesson and pupil for your checktest.
Our aim at all times is give you the best possible advice and training.
